Dear Abhay,
may i ask how much you paid for this coin?
rgds,

Harry

Wow! I would not have known that the 1939 Rupee is a fake had you not mentioned it. Here is, what I assume, a picture of a genuine 1939 Rupee, difficult to tell the difference!

The height of the second nine in the date tells the story, Harry. Engravers are very particular on the design and spacing of letters and numbers and since the invention of the reducing lathe, they can work on a much larger scale than a forger.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

rgds,

I got this coin about 7-8 years ago. I think I paid about Rs. 500 at that time.  :) :) :)

I have got a replica or Jewellers copy as they call about 5 years ago. See the file attached. The 9 seems to be different.

Another different "9" means another forger's skills .

Cheers ;D

A few new additions to my British India Rupee collection. I have an old 1943 half rupee from Lahore mint in my collection but it was in VG grade so added a new one in slightly better grade along with a 1944-L. The 1943-L is a dot in 3 variety is it any scarcer than the regular ones?

Thanks

Half rupees are always scarcer than rupees. One more thing, for some reason 1940 to 1945 one rupees are more expensive than other regular ones in some areas.

Thanks Islam. May be the logical reason for the 1940-45 rupee price is the demand.
