As you all know, 2010 & 2011 have been boon or bust, depending on the way you look at it in terms of the number of commemorative coins issued

We still have to await Swami Vivekananda's coin in the next few months which is mostly a given..., but here are some more themes to watch out for as official celebrations kick start (note i don't suggest coins for these  are in the pipeline)

- 100 years of New Delhi ... Year long Celebrations started early this month
- 50 years of Goa, Daman & Diu ... Celebrations commenced on 19th dec
- 150 years of Archeological Survey of India.... Started on 20 Dec
- 150 years of Mohanama Malaviya... Celebration starts on 27th dec

If you know of any other milestone celebrations  .. Do post them here... I'm sure one of them will eventually churn out a coin

GOI is testing our endurance limit.  Earlier only one coin set was issued in one year. We used to identify it not by its theme but by year of issue (e.g. 1976 coin set). Now GOI has issued so many coins in last 15 months that I lost count. GOI is inspired by tiny islands who issue stamps and coins everyday. This revenue plays an important part in their economy.

I lost count of the money I have splurged on new coins. I am a married man..every time I go to the bank to make a DD, there are some fireworks at home  ;D  ;D  ;D

GOI has forced me to violate one of the 7 vows which I took at the time of my marriage. On that fateful day, I promised (in front of Agni & Priest) that I will share everything with my wife. Due to excessive coins, I have to hide at least 2-3 DDs from my wife to maintain peace and tranquility.  :D  :D  :D

If my neighbors hear some fireworks from my bedroom;  they should readily blame GOI (after all its not my fault).

I agree that Swami Vivekananda's coin will be issued in future , may be one the first commemorative coin from Kolkatta mint (in 2012).

My strong guesstimate that among  below 4 themes ASI is strong contender.

- 100 years of New Delhi ... Year long Celebrations started early this month
- 50 years of Goa, Daman & Diu ... Celebrations commenced on 19th dec
- 150 years of Archeological Survey of India.... Started on 20 Dec

Cheers ;D

Sri Lanka issued coin after the Cricket World Cup Victory, why can't India do so even after winning two world cups and

the first T20 world cup. These coins will sell like crazy if they were only issued as comm from mints. :)

Eco,
Ministry of Finance has already turned down the proposal to issue a commemorative on World Cup.

As of now , oracles' on 527 posts... He'll probably make it this year past the 1000 th post and I can foresee our second Rs 1000 coin  ;D

In the meanwhile, here are some other themes to ponder... Admittedly some are highly unlikely... But if we can celebrate income tax... Why not

150th Anniversary of Calcutta highcourt... Celebrations started in July... http://indiatoday.intoday.in/gallery/calcutta-high-court-celebrates-150-years/1/4998.html

150th anniversary of first Indian emigration to south Africa... Celebrations in RSA started 16 nov.. http://www.joburg.org.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5916&catid=197&Itemid=344

May be India post will grab such themes to issue commemorative stamps but seldom chance for coins (just guessing)

If they issue so many commemorative coins, we collectors would be the first to agitate.

Just today, our PM has declared that next year will be 'Year of Mathematics' on the occasion of 125th birth anniversary of one of the greatest mathematician of all times, S. Ramanujan. I think there will be a commemorative coin too. 8) (There should be one!)
