The rescue phase of America's own "European Project" began in earnest the year this 1941s half dollar was coined in San Francisco.

Congress had passed the President's Lend-Lease program in March. The United States had begun to lose lives in the North Atlantic, again. And while it was true that late that year—for about three days in December—the future of America's "European Project" was very much in doubt, on the 11th of December, 1941, the European continent had one of its luckiest days ever. Adolf Hitler had somehow persuaded himself that declaring war on the United States of America seemed like a good idea....

Allies normally declare war when the others do.................
Shall we take this to the living room.

Walking liberty half dollars, one of the most beautiful designs of all U.S. coinage in my opinion. It puts today's issues to shame.

It is interesting to note that when the United States started making silver bullion coins,
the "American Silver Eagles" or ASE's, the mint used this design for the obverse.

Hi, Willie.

The $1 coins or American Silver Eagles are beautiful. I never collected them by date but have aquired a few over the years. We have started the tradition of giving my grandson one for each birthday. Since he is only 4 months old, he has only 1 but we hope that will grow to a nice grouping in the years to come. I don't kniow when the 2012 pieces will come out...but I have until October to get one.
The one pictured below is toning nicely.
