Coin in the style of a Shah Jahan Rupee
« on: February 06, 2008, 05:40:13 PM »
This coin appears to be one of Shah Jahan, or is it? I looked at a few coins of Shah Jahan.  All of them seemed more elegant and sophisticated than this one.  Is it a copy from another era or a provincial Governorís issue? A reynal year of 17 is OK, but a date of AH X170 does not make sense.

Dear Richie, It's a very crude imitation of a Shah Jahan Rupee. Such copies were sometimes made for jewelery purpose or as a religious amulet.

Thank you Oesho!  That gives me hope.  Perhaps Richie's judgement IS improving!
