A few George VI 1/4 Rupee coins from my collection. I just love the detailing on the reverse. Unlike older coins (minted in 0.917 silver), these are minted in 0.500 silver. The silver content was reduced when its prices went up after the outbreak of WWII.

Those are very nice 1/4 Rupee coins that you've got there. The mintmark can be found below the bottom flower on the reverse.

Thanks! The first three were minted in Bombay. The last two, which have no mint mark below the flower, were minted in Calcutta. The third mint, Lahore, used a small 'L' at the same position (not shown here).

The 1944 Bombay silver pieces have not yet been studied enough, I think. Your coins clearly show the large date and small date variety not listed in KM. KM does list two different flowers at the base of the reverse (calling it reverse B). There are, however, more varieties, ranging from small scallops in three concentric circles (12 scallops in the outer ring) with a dot in the centre to two large scallop circles (5 scallops in each ring) with a 5-petalled flower in the centre.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
