I found this one quarter anna at a coin shop yesterday. It has lovely details, probably even UNC or better.

I think this is a large legend variety, possibly a KM#446.1. I am not able to figure out which mint though. There is no explanation in Krause about mint marks for early 1/4 anna as far as I can search. Thoughts?

My goal for 2017 is to finish finish my British India copper collection (1/4 anna, 1/2 Pice and 1/12 anna) by year and Mintmark. Any help with missing coins in BU grades is highly appreciated.

In great condition. Have you collected the coin? Did you pay high price?

brokencompass

Yep! Bought it for USD 32. The shop keeper wouldn't sell it for anything less. I couldn't pass on this wonderful coin so I paid him what he wanted kicking and screaming!!

Thanks guys. I am only starting to build a good UNC collection. With the prices of UNC + coins these days it will probably stay a distant dream.

It definitely was pricey but I have never seen this coin in such a good condition.

Still not able to figure out the mint mark though.

And here is my one. You will never be happy with this. Though I paid less than 1 dollar for this.

Wonderfully detailed coin, abhinumis. Getting a coin with so little wear cannot be a goal by itself, though. Now that you can spot all the details, why not make a very detailed description? Which plants do you see? How many fruits? What's that coat of arms? What's on the ribbon? What's the text in Arabic writing? These are all interesting questions that will make the coin come to life for you. Good luck!
