Dear Friends

Yesterday, GOI released commemorative coins of Rs 100 & Rs 5 on centenary of ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research).

ICMR is the premier institution in the field of medical research in India.

The coins were released in the evening by our health minister. I also attended coin release function. One 5Rs UNC coin was given to each person. I also received my 5Rs. I will not comment on the design of the coin (as it is logo of ICMR centenary). However quality of the coin was very nice. It had mirror finish. Even minute details are readable. Maybe because these are the first strikes..

Regards
Sanjay Kansal

CONGRATS!!!!
So, you are amongst the first ones to have this coin in your hand.

Were you able to get a VVIP set also?

I have never attended any coin releasing ceremony, although I have attended 2-3 stamp releasing ceremonies.

Really the design of this coin is very good. every minute detail is clearly visible. First commemorative coin to bear the new rupee symbol. So can you inform if the 5rupees coin is going to come out to circulation or not?
Why so serious?

Now I know why reading newspaper on a daily basis is a good habit :p Wasn't aware of this new release got to know just now.

Any idea about the mintage of this coin? Is it a circulation coin? If yes, then I sincerely hope that greedy dealers have some mercy on collectors and we get a chance to own this beauty soonest. :)
Warm Regards,
Mackie

Dear Sanjay ,

We are proud that you are one of the dignitary and had opportunity to participate in ceremony.

Congrats indeed for acquisitions of VIP set , crossing fingers - prices may not escalate in future, by the way how many sets were meant for distribution to VIP's if you may share with all of us.

Cheers ;D

Every experience, good or bad, is a priceless collector's item.

I am proud owner of a single 5Rs coin. I don't have VIP set. They were brought in a limited number and offered only to dignitaries. Unfortunately they did not considered me as a dignitary..
