You are correct;  :D introduced in 1970, they were made by Bell Fruit for use in their machines exported to Sweden. Face value 50 öre.

Found in circulation in UK due to thefts by dock workers while tokens were in transit.  ::)

Another of the same size is a 1 Schilling for use in Austria. Others, but larger, 25,000 yen, Japan; and 200 Kobo for use in Nigeria, both brass and 29.5mm.

I shall have a hunt round tomorrow and endeavour to bring the Bell tokens together.  8)

Aha! Thank you for the confirmation. That means I now need to move some records around... Good to have an approximate date, too.

Topic now updated with all the relevant posts.

I only have rubbings of those foreign Bell tokens; another is GOLD 50 LEU AWARD brass 21mm but the rubbing is too poor to bother posting.

Other rubbings attached:

Bell Fruit, 25,000 yen brass 29.4mm
Bell Fruit Token 1 Schilling brass 18.7mm
Bell Fruit 200 Kobo brass 29.4mm

Here is a selection of the rare Bell-Fruit jackpot tokens.

All are round brass except top centre one in Cu-Ni. All are 25mm except top right at 21mm.

These range through 4/-, 5/-, £2-0-0, £4.10.0 and £5-0-0

They are always found holed which could suggest some kind of filing system when not in use, I.E. when returned to the cashier when claiming prize.

Thanks to Mal for showing and Andy for telling!

Here is a mule from Bell-Fruit using the obverse Swedish 50 öre [see above] and the reverse letter A
Brass, 18.7mm

Introduced 1960, withdrawn 1968, the letter series tokens, A through J [omitting H and I] were made by Bell-Fruit for their 'Silver Tankard' fruit machines. The letters designated various areas of the country and were identification devices much as the serial numbers used on jackpot tokens were. 'A' probably stands for the London area.

Well-used nevertheless!  :D

Presumably Bell-gian (sorry  ::)) rather than French? Or is it old enough to be pre-1960? 500 nouveaux francs (c. £50) seems rather a lot, while the Belgian franc was worth considerably less.

Or is it CFA francs, and from francophone West Africa?

Can you find another for me?  ;D

It looks very much as though it could be as Bell fruit token.

Bell-Fruit Manufacturing Ltd were established 1963 so its not the pre-1960 Franc.

I shall indeed!
I think it's from Luxembourg - Franc at par with Belgium.

This certainly sounds likely.
