A very attractive coin but I can't find it in KM, it weighs around 5.00g  so  presumably 20 Sen?

24mm,  milled edge, if someone can date it then I can hopefully find it's Y# number

Yes, denomination is at the bottom of your second image (right to left: 2 - 10 - SEN).  Date is Meiji 4 = 1871.

 I think it must be Y#3 but there is no photo in the KM catalogue  to be sure,

There are two variations for 1871 - year 4 with one version seemingly quite scarce, the common version has the lower stroke in "SEN" incomplete, as far as I can tell mine seemingly is the scarcer of the two but can't be sure.

this is the common variation. The rare variation has an incomplete character for sen. The stamp is with the coinage dirtily and the sign for sen became incomplete.

Thank you, pingu. That clears it up very well. The variation indeed seems to be the result of a dirty die. Interesting, but as far as I am concerned a production error, not a variation.
