Recent acquisition of these old bank notes , Fourth series of the renminbi.





5 Jiao -Miao and Zhuang children. Coat of Arms of People's Republic of China.
2 Jiao - Native and Korean youth
1 Jiao -Two Taiwanese men


Tibetan, Yangtze Gorges



Obverse: Hyger & Ye Yien youths. Reverse: South Sea rocky shoreline.


Dong & Yao girls; Great Wall of China.

They are my favourite whole series of banknotes, they were still being used a bit in 2006 when I was there, but now they are completely replaced with the Chairman Mao notes.

Actually I get mint 5 mao notes (1980) from my local shop most days. The 1 and 5 jiao notes from this time are still used, but I don't see 1 jiaos in good condition.

First time I was in China was in the late seventies. What I remember is a series of banknotes with landscapes. I given a choice, people preferred USD. I went back a couple of times over the years, but don't remember these notes.

I too like the design on these Bank notes and already got few  in circulation during 2005 just for remembrance,  at present these are available only with dealers and fetching handsome prices due to high demand in Chinese market.

But this recent acquisition of bank notes is quite systematic step for collection after joining WOC and enhancing knowledge in Numismatics. ;) ;)
