I just checked magnetism on the other Ethiopian coins in my collection: the 1969-issues are non-magnetic, as could be expected for a copper-zinc alloy. on the other hand: the EE1996 and 1998 issues from the British Royal Mint are magnetic, so I believe there has been a change of material there which is not in Krause. As I mentioned earlier, the EE 2000 issues from the Canadian Royal Mint are also magnetic (steel blankets?).
coffeetime already pointed out the article in World Coin News, telling that the Canadian Royal Mint issues were slightly different of the British Royal Mint issues. Still this variety didn't find its way to the Krause world catalog.
