KM 466 has 1862 1/2 Pice Proof restrike. Listed for $25 :)
Thanks for the details. I think the price mentioned is a guideline for starting a bid or if one want to sell for free :P.

These were struck till the 1970's on demand.

Then proofs are not money? They are showpieces? I think real coins meant to circulate should be more expensive than these.

Yes, which is why I don't really like restrikes.  As I feel that they are "replicas" of the actual coin.  Having said this, restrikes are in high demand and many collectors like to collect restrikes, they are beautiful and now like most BI coins supply has dried up.

I got my coin for $25 many years ago when I first started collecting. I thought it was a real proof and bought it thinking that it was a good deal.  At that time I was not very familiar with BI coins. Only to learn later that the coin is a restrike. I was disappointed and put this coin in my "junk" box. Fast forward 20 years and I'm now shocked to see that these coins have real demand!  Its out of my junk box and into a slab!!!...I'm not complaining  ;D

Though as Numismatic Historians we can appreciate why a business strike is more real than a restrike, the price of a coin just gets decided by market demand. Restrikes started out as a replacement for Proofs but is so much in demand right now, its impossible.

Apparently restriking these coins was an active business of the Bombay mint until the 70's. They were churning out pieces for dealers in Australia and USA.
My goal for 2017 is to finish finish my British India copper collection (1/4 anna, 1/2 Pice and 1/12 anna) by year and Mintmark. Any help with missing coins in BU grades is highly appreciated.
