1862 1/2 pice proof restrike.
My goal for 2017 is to finish finish my British India copper collection (1/4 anna, 1/2 Pice and 1/12 anna) by year and Mintmark. Any help with missing coins in BU grades is highly appreciated.

I observed that 1/2 pice coins were sharply struck & probably few error coins of this denomination available in comparison to 1/12 , 1/4 Anna , 1 Anna etc.

What ever 1/2 Pice coins available in circulated conditions are less worn out and easily available in VF - XF conditions.

Therefore UNC & proof  coins are definitely much better for 1/2 pice denomination also as posted by you here.

Cheers ;D

From what I have noticed in general 1/2 pice coins are really hard to find when compared to 1/2 anna and 1/4 anna coins even though they have about the same mintage numbers...

A reality for me too. I never found a victoria one quarter anna in at least good condition (probably my bad luck). But my 1/2 pices are at least VF.

In my experience, albeit limited, I think that the 1/2 (half) Anna Victoria is a tough coin to find in Unc. I have the 1/2 pice and many 1/4 Anna coins and alot more 1/12 Anna but no 1/2 Anna in my collection.  :(   Please help me in locating one!

Referring the original coin of the thread, is the coin made of gold? And though not so important issue, but did you pay about the suggested price of Krause catalogue?

It is a copper coin but it is laquered for protection like most British India Restrikes.

The catalog prices on these coins are still prehistoric. This coin will probably sell for $500 if it went on an auction today.

I have to recheck, is 1862 restricks listed in Krause? I asked the catalogue price to raise the question of their validity today and I agree with you. Same comment is for silver rupees.

Revisit: and if I am not wrong, Krause lists only gold proof 1865 half pice.
