Bahrain, unadopted designs.


Here are some old, rather brown, photos I found in the National Archives, London.

They show unrealised designs for Bahrain from the early to mid 1960s.

Unfortunately, no details of the designer were included.


The first set of designs included a dolphin motif.

The second set included a palm tree.

A variation of that design appeared on Bahrain's actual circulation coins.

Those top view dolphins are innovative. I bet they'd look good on a bi-metallic coin. Thanks for publishing these interesting drawings!

UAE coins of the 1970s onwards are OK.

Modern Algerian ones (moving on to N Africa) are superb, as is the new 2011 Morocco set.

Let's hope these last two set off a trend of thematic designs for that region of the world.
