Sadly none of these designs was chosen by the Libyan government

Libya did not issue a new design series until 1965.

Libya, quarter dinar, 2001.


An armoured horseman eventually appeared on Libyan coins from 1979 to 2009.


It was designed by Englishman Michael Hibbit.

It was very different in style from the one proposed in 1959.

In 2014 Libya issued two circulation coins depicting ancient buildings.

These themes were similar to those suggested in 1959.
