The Imperial Mint of Japan

The Imperial Mint on the Okawa River in Osaka. Established to modernize Japan's currency system, the Mint's inaugural ceremony was held on April 4, 1871 (Meiji 4). It created the gold yen, equal to the old ryo, with subsidiary units sen (1/100) and rin (1/1000).

Until 1871, Japan did not have a single currency. Each domain issued its own currencies. For international trade, the Mexican Dollar was often used. The Mint therefore played an important part in creating a stable currency and the rise of modern industry and culture in Japan.

Also an interesting book is available at google with title : Thomas William Kinder and the Japanese Imperial Mint, 1868-1875 By Roy S. Hanashiro

William Kinder was master of the Hong Kong mint when it was closed. Its machinery was bought by the Japanese and Kinder became part of the inventory.

Hello,

from 1984-1987 was illustrated the Osaka-Mint on the packaging of the japanese coinset. Here the Set of 1987.:
The mint was integrated into the already existing ironworks at that time.

Thanks, Pingu. I visited the Tokyo branch mint museum a long time ago. I assumed the mint would be not too far away. This site cleared up that misunderstanding.

Five presses in a tiny room.

How, in such constrained conditions, this equipment can be, for example, repair?
