To me this looks like the already cataloged 1913/07, with the added twist of strike doubling.

I wish they had a photo of the 13/17...in the catalogs...then I would know for sure. Oh well...I've had the coin for about 30 years or so...another 30 won't much matter.

Thanks for the input.

You might try to get a (more or less) specialized catalog of Mexican coins through the inter-library loan function of your local library...maybe.

My old catalog (from the days when Mexican coins were widely collected by date in the U.S.) illustrates both the 13/07 and the 13/2.

Something is definitely going on with the 3 of your coin. Perhaps it's a die chip, etc., or perhaps it is a 3/7 or a 3/2--except the little bit of metal visible at the lower right on the 3/2 coin is absent. So die chip, etc., or 3/7. Which means look at the 1. Sort of. Actually, look around the 1.

Your revised picture isn't the best (although it's really a fine photo), so I can't be sure. But I think a hint of the 0 is suggested to the left and the right of the 1, and also below the bottom of the 1.

Then, again, there is the strike doubling, which only serves to confuse things...

But a nice coin, and fun.

Hello, Villa, and thank you for your input. Yes, it is a bit of a puzzle. There is a 1917 on E-Bay and compared the 7 with my coin...not quite a match...so something interesting is going on. My wife is a library director so I will put in a request to see if she can order the books from ILL. Great suggestion.

To all who have responded with thoughts and suggestions on this piece, your thoughts are very much appreciated. What a terrific group!
