A nice picture here
I would like to know which banknotes are in the star  ;D

BC Numismatics

It is all the denominations from the 5 Euros right up to the 500 Euros that is enclosed inside that perspex star.I don't know which issue the notes are,but they are certainly not Maltese Euro notes (as none have been printed yet).

Alas for Aidan, most will be not Irish. :'( But probably the 20 euro notes will be. ;) We must assume that most if not all notes intended for circulation in Malta have been printed in 2007.

Printing quantities and allotments for 2007 are:
5 euro 980,000,000 to be printed by France, Germany, and Spain.
10 euro 1,280,000,000: Austria, France, Germany, Greece, and the Netherlands.
20 euro 1,890,000,000: Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.
50 euro 1,730,000,000: Belgium, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
100 euro 230,000,000: Italy and the Netherlands.
200 euro: none.
500 euro 190,000,000 all printed by Germany.

Strictly speaking, they are printed by whichever company the national central bank gives the order to. Contrary to the coins, the notes are not really "Maltese", "Irish" etc., as most people - except specialized collectors ;D maybe - will not really care or know about those printer codes and NCB codes.

Side note: Wouldn't it make sense to produce more of those ?500 notes in Spain? After all, that is where more than 25 percent of them go and are used ...

Or earlier. Just like Slovenia before (and like Cyprus), Malta will first "borrow" existing notes from the Eurosystem (ESCB). I just checked, and it seems the initial supply for MT will come from the Italian central bank. We are talking about a total volume of 80 million notes here; not that much. http://www.maltamedia.com/artman2/publish/financial/article_3464.shtml

Banca d'Italia has the "S" as character in the serial number, its printer code is "J". So that is the combination people in Malta will mostly see. Unfortunately they will not see their country on the note map yet ...

Christian,I am a specialist collector of the Euro notes that have been printed in Ireland. They are the ones with the 'T' prefix of the serial number. If & when Euro banknotes are printed in both Cyprus & Malta,I will be collecting those.

I've only got the 5 & 10 Euros with Wim Duizenberg's signature. If anyone is offering me the 'T' prefix ones with Jean-Claude Trichet's signature,I'd be interested.

Aidan, Apart from the two notes in your collection, the following notes with a "T" prefix exist:
5 euro Trichet.
10 euro Trichet.
20 euro Duisenberg. Some of these notes are printed in Ireland, but about half are printed in England, by De la Rue in Gateshead.
20 euro Trichet. Planned for 2007.
50 euro Duisenberg.
100 euro Duisenberg.
200 euro none.
500 euro Duisenberg. These notes are not printed in Ireland, but in Austria, by OeBS in Vienna.
