I thought the text written between the scales was "Adil"?

Usually denomination is written in persian. 'alif' 'daal' 'laam' is possible. But what do they indicate?

Nice coin. Is it 'Aain' 'Ra' 'laam'? If so or not what do they indicate?

Islam

Thanks Islam.Yes, Mid one is "Daal" so it goes "Adal" means Justice!
so i guess Balance is a sign of justice.

In India too sign of justice is (in courts) idol of lady with Balance in her hand.

I got a half anna today and starting researching about half annas from 1834. Here's some more info about these ...

According to Pridmore this anna comes in three types, differentiated by how big the letters "Half Anna" is. Your's seems like the 1 MM version. There are 2.5 mm and 2 mm versions too according to Pridmore.
My goal for 2017 is to finish finish my British India copper collection (1/4 anna, 1/2 Pice and 1/12 anna) by year and Mintmark. Any help with missing coins in BU grades is highly appreciated.

Tariq,

According to Pridmore the 1833 1/4 anna comes in 2 types again differentiated by the width of the denomination "Quarter Anna". There is a 1 MM version and a 1.5 MM version

India-British, Bombay Presidency KM 253, copper 1/2 anna 1249 AH/1834 AD. This coin is one of the last to be issued before unification of the British Indian coinage system (Act XVII of 1835.) However, in 1824, Bombay had already acepted the Madras standard for silver and the Madras standard was the basis for the reform of 1835, so the coin remained in circulation. Since a few different dies are known, I suspect it was struck in large quantities with a frozen date for a few more years, while the 1835 coins were back-dated. Both types are common, but hard to find in VF or better.

Dear Samir,
1833 1/4 anna is not a scarce coin but half anna is a scarce coin.. I would suggest u 2 buy the coin only in good condition only.. It would cost may be 50-100 rupee more but it would be worth it in long run
cheers :)
