Can you tell me how many different colours and shapes are in this series.  Many thanks ;)
I'm assuming they're meant to be used as gambling chips and were given away free??

Circle diameter is 30mm.

Pernod obviously had a record for producing gaming counters.
Any ideas on dates?

I never saw these before, redwine, and I did go to coin shows when I lived in France (1984-1999) and the dealers knew about my token aberration ;)

Pernod headquarters - a bizarre building, hard to miss - is just East of Paris on A68...

I've emailed Pernod.  I await their reply...........................

No reply as yet but I have found:

Metal box, dimensions : 10.5 x 7 x 2.5 cm
Inside the cover of the metal box : "Une partie qui finit bien, finit toujours pars un BYRRH"
A party that ends well, always ends with a BYRRH

There's a picture of one here

And here is an excellent site which lists the Pernod counters.

Surely there is a reason in the older ones there are generally only four colours involved - Off White or Yellow / Orange / Green / Red or Pink???
And three shapes - Circle / Small rectangle / Large rectangle ???
Seems like it would be for a particular game.  Belote?  But how does that work?

I think these are meant to be jetons for roulette, but they can be used for other games also. The different shapes stand for different values and the different colours for different players. In a French casino, all jetons are the same, but security is much better than at home.

If all players have the same colour, one well-known trick is la poucette. Player A (the victim) plays, say 11. Player B (the fraudster) plays 10 while A is distracted (possibly be an accomplice,) but pushes A's jeton to 12 with his jeton. Then, he picks up his own jeton as if in doubt. If 12 wins, he claims the winnings. A knows he has lost and will assume the croupier has taken his jeton, if 11 wins, B disappears quickly and A starts a fight with the croupier, if any other number wins, B is free to do the same trick again. This sort of behaviour at home can end long friendships :'(

The box may have the right size for cards, but isn't it possible that you could store jetons in it?

I don't have a single trick. I am like Felix the cat: whenever I am in a fix I'm reaching into my bag of tricks. ;)
