Several dealers were having this particular coin for sale yesterday at coin fair for Rs 30 each (20-25 for wholesale) but the condition was so pathetic that I didn't buy a single coin. >:( Mumbai struck coins were still much better than those from Kolkata but as only one dealer had Mumbai struck coins, he was asking Rs 70 each, so didn't bother to buy one.

There is a plainer edge and milled edge variety

Edge varieties - Plain & Milled  edge issued by Kol and Mumbai mint both ? or else.

Cheers ;D

I think plain edge and milled edge varieties exist commonly across the 2010 and 2011 commemorative as well as definitive coins. Edge varities in older coins is scare or rarer than the new ones. Credit goes to mint's minting quality standards.  ::)

Interesting observation/comment. Is this coin officially released for general circulation or is it still doing the dealer rounds?

Regards,

Bimat

Officially released. I don't think Mumbai RBI distributed them, though.

Dear Adi

If date 28th then how come the dealer got earlier than the date. It clearly shows that Higher officer in RBI are involved in the scam of realizing the coins earlier and earning handsome money.

The Quality of Rs 5 Coin of Income Tax minted by Kolkata Mint is SOOOOO bad that  I could not find a single coin in goods condition between 100 coin, I do not understand that the babu's sitting in SPMCIL, Delhi and Mint, Kolkata are planning to shut the mint and upgrade its machines

Abhay

I think it is a way of showing the anger (By the Mint workers) towards the Income Tax Department. ;D ;D ;D >:D >:D >:D

I could not find this coin of bad quality with any of dealers here in Delhi (they are also angry with IT dept  >:D >:D) so they have  decided to boycott this coin  & don't want to sell it.

Cheers ;D

The quality of coin is soooo bad that Chanakya reminds me of Saabu of Chacha Chowdhry comic strip we used to read in childhood.
See the resemblance. Both have bald head + angry expression + large ear rings
;D  ;D  ;D

Sis got one (Mumbai mint) in change yesterday...and the quality is MUCH better than that of Kolkata mint! Although it's circulated, it is still very shiny..didn't mind to have it for free.. ;D
