Akbar - Square - Urdu Zafar Qarin - Coin or Temple Token????
« on: August 25, 2011, 10:17:00 AM »
Recently, I got this square coin of Akbar, Urdu Zafar Qarin mint.
Although, the calligraphy on this coin matches quite well with all the other square coins of Akbar, it is the Fabric and the style, which create some doubt that whether it is a coin or a token.

Metal: Silver
Size: 21.2 X 21.2 mm
Weight: 9.75 grams.

It seems that it's an islamic token, a (crude) copy of a rupee "urdu zafar qarin", dated "alif"; the low weight may confirms this.

Thanks Amit. Even I had my doubts. The coins seldom shows the full die impression. Moreover, the actual coins have a border of dots on the edges, which this coin/token does not show.

There is a lot wrong with the 'coin'.
1) Weight
2) Style of Engraving
3) complete legend on the coin ......
4) Incoherent writing.......

It all sticks out shouting it is not a 'coin'

1) Weight - lower weight than normal available coins of similar category.
2) Style of Engraving - how to differentiate ?
3) complete legend on the coin ...... - usually small wear & tear marks must be key factor about authenticity of coin with some legend off the flan.
4) Incoherent writing....... - how to differentiate.

Could  please you shed more light on point 2 & 4.

Cheers ;D

Just compare the 'coin' above with the one here and you will see the difference.
