Akbar. Damra (1/8 Tanka), Ilahi 44. KM#16.3
« on: August 25, 2011, 07:28:56 AM »
I can read the year Ilahi 44 clearly on this 4.9 g coin. The bottom coin seems to read Akbarshahi at the top and Tanki ? at the bottom.

At this weight , it would be a 1/4th Dam as it is abit heavy for a 1 Tanki coin. Please help attribute if any other details can be read.

It's a 1/8 tanka (quarter dam) dated Ilahi 44; the persian month is below the Ilahi date and could be "shahrewar" ?
on the other face, somewhat worn or corroded : "(tanka )Akbar shahi)" and the mintname : "Hisar"

That needs to be confirm...

Thanks Saro. I was just going through Numismaster and I found the following information.

KM#   16.X
Denomination   Damra (Type 16)
Country   India, Mughal Empire
Government   Empire
Ruler   Muhammad Akbar (AH963-1014 / 1556-1605AD)
Coinage Type   Hammered Coinage
Mint   XXXXXX
Composition   Copper
Description Obverse   Mint name; border of dots
Description Reverse   Ilahi date, Persian month; border of dots
Legend Obverse   AKBAR SHAHI
Notes   Weight varies: 4.75-5.50 grams.

One coin also shows a legend : ONE-EIGHTH PART OF A TANKA; AKBAR SHAI

So would this be a denomination DAMRA?

A number of coins show the word 'hissah', often (also by me before) read as Hisar. This seems not be correct and would actually read 'hashtum hissah tanka akbar shahi' (1/8 tanka Akbar Shahi)
The word 'hashtum' is quite clear on this coin.
The reverse has the Iahi year and month. The coin seems to be mintless.
