The macaque monkey appears on the coins of Gibraltar.

The animal is a local emblem there.

It is sometimes referred to as a Barbary ape, though it is not an ape.

Tradition has it that British rule over the Rock of Gibraltar will end if the macaques ever disappear.

The Franklin Mint created a collector-only set for Guyana in the 1970s.

The coins depicted the national wildlife but never circulated.

Somalia 50sh-2002.jpg

Cooks, Somalia, Somaliland-10s.jpg

Here you have a chimpanzee from the Cook Islands (1 cent), a mandrill from Somalia (50 shillings), and a vervet monkey from Somaliland (10 shillings).

Chimpanzees are not indigenous to the Cook Islands. It's possible that they live there in a zoo, but I don't even know if there are any zoos there.

Once again, I suspect these are all unofficial issues.
