Lets issue a coin commemorating black money stashed away. There will be no political opposition as all the politicians have slush accounts...

After "150 years of Income tax" the next theme could be "US$ 1 Trillion in black money". We can have pictures of wads of dollars on obverse. On revere, we could have outlines of Cayman Island, Isle of Mann, Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, Switzerland and Mauritius and other tax haven islands...

I am not saying Laxmibai should have separate coin...but we can have theme like women warriors, great women..We have very rare coins of women personalities...(only Indira Gandhi...,Mother Teresa, Sister  Alphonsa)...I think Laxmibai is much better theme than few of the coins minted in last few years... >:D
Some of the themes which are non political
1. Great mountains of India (Himalayas , Sahyadri)
2. Indian Rivers
Indian stamps have better themes ...can borrow few...

It wasn't commemorating Jhansi ki Rani but 150th anniversary of first war of independence. One of the portrait shown was that of Rani..

Aditya

Absolutely right ................

I was scraching my head why I missed that coin of "Jhansi Ki Rani" and why I didn't noticed it .

Jhansi ki rani was accompanied by many others

Cheers ;D

Govt to issue commemorative coins for CAG on 150th anniversary

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India may have embarrassed the government unearthing scams like 2G spectrum and Commonwealth Games projects, but the Finance Ministry will issue a commemorative coin this year on CAG completing 150 years.

"This year is very important for the Finance Ministry as CAG has completed 150 years. I have received a request to celebrate this occasion by issue of a coin," Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Also, it would be 150 years since Indians started paying income tax. The Income Tax Act, 1861 was originally framed by James Wilson. Initially, the tax was imposed for five years...but continues till date, he said.

As Mukherjee talked about celebrations of 150 years of CAG, there was a laughter in the Opposition benches which have been trying to corner the government over CAG reports on 2G spectrum allocation and Commonwealth Games.

The Finance Minister looked rather amused. "I will ask them to mint more coins...you can buy," he said.

He made these remarks while replying to a debate on the Coinage Bill, 2009 which repeals four earlier Acts, including that of Metal Tokens Act of 1889, combining them into one.

Another new coin!! Wonder what the design would be?! But after the lack of imagination shown in choosing designs(recent regular series) lately, I don't have high hopes to see any innovaton!! :-\

Dear TO

I agree with you. There is a backlog of six commemorative coins for which we have to pay if we want to continue the hobby:

1. Income Tax
2. C Subramaniam
3. Tanjavore Temple
4. Civil Aviation
5. ICMR
6. CAG

In the last 15-18 months, GOI has issued a dozen commemorative coins. Earleir only 1-2 coins were issued in the same period...
