I do remember that this was discussed in some thread earlier but I could not find it this morning.

A Rupee of Surat with the RY written as 1 instead of Ahd. As I saw on Zeno, this was observed on nly two or three mints.

Here is a coin AH 1038 RY Ahd. An almost complete coin with the circle of dots visible on all sides.

That is a wonderful coin. Remember that one when I get around to that ruler.

But I can read a retrograded 1120. Am I wrong?

On the top coin right image lower left you can see 037.

On the second coin right image lower right you can see 1037.

I am unable to see what you suggest.

Thanks I did not notice the right image as I am using mobile set.

But the right image of upper coin has 037 while the second coin right image has 1038. Repeat 1038.

Again the left image of the upper coin has some numbers at 7 0'clock.

Sorry yes it is 8 (7 and 8 and my fingers on the keyboard don't mix).

Can't see the other numbers as of yet.

I think this is what Islam saw as a retrogade 1120...

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Oesho

Important by reading the legend and date on a coin is first of all to try to reconstruct the legend.
The standard couplet on the coins of Shah Jahan is:
shihab al-din muhammad sahib qiran sani
shah jahan badshah ghazi.

Once you look at the coin the couplet arrangement (reading from bottom to top) is:
ghazi
shah jahan badshah
sahib (sanah 1) qiran sani
muhammad
shihab al-din

Any word/symbol/digit which doesn't fit in it requires therefore extra attention.

Right Peter. For me it is, from left to right, 02, then space.. then 11.
