OTTAWA - The Royal Canadian Mint has released a $1,200 limited edition coin commemorating the royal tour, which is set to begin Thursday.

The gold and crystal coin bears the likeness of Prince William and his wife Kate, who will spend nine days touring Ottawa, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, the Northwest Territories and Alberta.

Only 2,000 of the 22-karat gold coins are being produced.

Each coin has a $200 face value and costs $1,199.95.

A silver coin with a sapphire-coloured crystal featuring the same design was released in April to commemorate William and Kate's wedding.

The mint's entire run of those coins — all 25,000 — has already sold out.

Aah, I just saved $1,200. :) But I guess the RCM knows pretty well what, and how many, they can sell.
