Title "UAE: New "Collector" Coin to Commemorate Date Palm Award"

How is it possible to "not be available for the general public" and be a "Collector" Coin?

What is a collector coin that collectors can't get?

Well, it isn't a collector coin then is it?

Very odd!

Greece did pretty much the same thing back in 2003. They issued a silver "collector" coin and a gold piece (75 years central bank), but only Bank of Greece staff (silver) and VIP visitors (gold) could get them. ::)

Attached is a tiny image of the coin (source: OANA). The other image shows the logo of the Date Palm Award; I cut most of the globe off ...

Sounds like a way of making people rich. You call it a "collector coin", give it to a few people who can sell it on for loads of money because it is a coin and not a medal or something. It's a scam, but those who buy into this whole scam stuff are the ones who make people want to keep on scamming.

Seems that it will not be possible to buy the pieces anyway. "It should be known that all coins have been delivered to the Supreme Council of Energy, hence it will not be available for sale to the general public through banks." (Source) Also, "The coins will not be available for sale to the general public." (Source) This second article also has an image that shows the two "coins" or medals.

Governments commemorate anything these days. May be one day, India will issue a commemorative coin like 'XXth Anniversary of first thousand crore scam'? >:D (1 crore = 10 Million)

Do you mean a roll of 40 coins @ 3 Dirham per coin (120 Dirham for the roll) or did you forget to add two zeros after 3 or something else? ;)
