French India: AR Fanon, 173x, Mahé (KM#66)

Most likely ١٧٣۵ (AH 1735)...

A gallery of my coins can been seen at FORVM Ancient Coins

Figleaf

KM 66. Since the type is known only with dates 1731 to 1735 (later dates have an additional P) it can only be dated 1735. Fanon is of course the frenchified version of fanam with a local rate of 5 fanon to the rupee.

KM says the legend is obv. Frans / campangi, rev. Bhultcheri (mint name, Pondicheri in french). I'd be curious how Maythem reads it.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

These fanans show only a part of the legends which are often roughly written, specially on this examplar.
" Phulchery" (not Bhultchery, B doesn't exist in the arabic alphabet)and " Frans Kompani"
"All I know is that I know nothing" (Socrates)

2 types of script exist  for "Pondichery":
" پرچری  " (P(u)rchery/ this coin) and " پهلچری " (Phulchery) + western letter P.
associated with "فرانس کمپنی " "Frans Kompani"
"All I know is that I know nothing" (Socrates)

"Frans kompani" but what meaning for these 2 letters  ???
