Tajikistan 5 somoni 2019-.jpg

The 5 somoni was the highest denomination of the series.

It featured a portrait of Tajik poet and writer Sadriddin Aynii.

The coin seems to be quite scarce.

It too features a latent image on the reverse.

A question - who can read the Cyrillic script that appears on the latent images of the somoni coins?

The 25 diram coin of 2001.

The 1 somoni coin of 2019.

Interesting that the motif on the old diram coins moved up to the newer somoni coins.

In 2019 Tajikistan issued yet another new coin series.

The denominations consisted of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 dirams and 1, 3 and 5 somoni.

The diram coins were all made of brass-plated steel.

All the diram coins had a common obverse that featured the national emblem.

Below you see the obverse of the 2 diram coin of 2019.

2019 series removed crown from the denomination side of 1, 3 and 5 Somoni coins.
Any specific reason?

None that I know of. Maybe they just wanted a bit of variety in the designs.
