All the coins of the 2011 series featured the national emblem on the obverse.

The 1 somoni coin was the highest denomination of the series that was issued in 2011.

It had a different reverse design.


The coin was made of nickel-plated iron.

It was 27 mm in diameter and weighed 5.2 grams.

Tajikistan: coin series of 2015.

In 2015 an amended series of coins was issued.

These comprised the 5, 10 20 and 50 dirams.


The numerals and text appeared in a different font on these coins.

Otherwise the main design details remained unchanged.

In 2017 yet another series was issued.

Here the style of the obverses of the 2015 set was retained.

However, the reverse designs were in the style of the 2011 set.

New denominations of 2018.

In 2018 Tajikistan added new types of 1, 3 and 5 somoni circulation coins to the series.

On the reverse of the 5 somoni coin, part of the numeral '5' has a latent image embedded in it.


The 1 somoni features a portrait of the Tajik poet Mirzo Tursunzoda

The 3 somoni features a portrait of the Tajik politician Shirinsho Shotemur

The 5 somoni features a portrait of Tajik poet and writer Sadriddin Aynii.


The style of the text on the diram coins matches that of the 2015 series.

This can be seen from the wider 'x' letter on the obverse of the diram denominations.

Tajikistan: coin series of 2019.

In 2019 Tajikistan issued yet another new coin series.

The denominations consisted of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 dirams and 1, 3 and 5 somoni.


The diram coins were all made of brass-plated steel.

All the diram coins had a common obverse that featured the national emblem.

Below you see the obverse of the 2 diram coin of 2019.

The 1 diram coin must be rather scarce.

Here you see an image of the reverse.

The design was now rather plain, showing only the denomination.

It was very similar in style to that of the 1 diram coin.

It had an arabesque pattern around the inner rim.
