Oman: Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said dies

Sultan of Oman Qaboos bin Said al Said, who amongst other things also was the director of the Central Bank of Oman, has died. As he has no children he will be succeeded by his cousin Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.

The current circulating coins of Oman only depict his name. Late last year in all secrecy the production of an amended series of circulating coins for Oman started. Whether only the name on the coins will be changed or the entire designs will be changed is unknown.

Interesting, the latest circulation series appears to have been minted by the Mint of Finland. Moreover, I believe the latest Omani commemorative coin by the Royal Mint was produced in 2001.

No respectable mint would not have taken such a long period to mint quantity needed for a small nation as Oman.

Real pity we lost the tender, we won't mint them.

I am sorry I can't share the design but it looks nice and material will be pure Silver.
