The Van Nelle tokens are either in Cu-Ni (I suspect yours are) or in copper-nickel clad copper. The Maas token is either brass (2) or brass clad zinc (4). Check the edge for a sandwich of colours and let me know, please. Weights may be different also, but I have no weight data.

The BAM tokens are puzzling. Coffee machine tokens should have been 22.5 mm. BAM does many projects in other countries. Kooij tries to list those too, but he may not have been aware of these or these tokens may be a new issue (yummie!)

The Steigler tokens may well be German. Will do some research later.

I think the Rowenta token is French and for clothes dryers or vacuum cleaners in a car wash.

Please remember, all ye members, that it is not necessary that the token is in your collection. Any rights free source is OK and so is any size of picture. I can handle larger sizes by email and I'd rather have a thumbnail than no picture. If you come across a picture while surfing the net, please think of this project. A diameter is much appreciated, but not always necessary.

That's the kind of coffee machine that you use at home. It doesn't run on tokens. From a distance, it looks like a cigar-chomping evil butler.

The Spengler tokens are indeed German. The issuer was:

They specialised in coffee vending machines. The company closed in 2015.

Steigler is also German. The issuer is:

The tokens with the Conti logo and crown were issued by Conti espresso machine, 1 avenue Albert II, Monaco.

I found no coffee vending machines on their site. Your tokens may have been used for advertising. According to their web site, they are represented on trade shows in Paris and Bordeaux.

The two BAM tokens remain puzzling. There is a large Dutch construction company called BAM, but their logo is different from what is on your token. The diameter of your tokens would make them unfit for Dutch coffee vending machines.

The tables are ready now. Issuers in green means that an image was provided either by malj1 or by me. We are hoping for others to come in with illustrations.

I separated out tokens that were unlikely to be coffee vending machine tokens on various criteria, assuming that the builders of the machines determined the size of the slot and that there were few builders. The criteria for exclusion were:

• Diameter not made by a machine builder or provided by a canteen/cafetaria service provider
• Not round
• Denomination
• Otherwise clearly not a coffee vending machine token

I included an unlisted token that is clearly Dutch and a coffee token at the end of the last table. I am sure there will be more of those in due time.

The tables exist in Excel format, so you can use them as a data base. If you want a copy, please let me know.

To enable further research, I want to achieve two things. First, separate "diameter givers" from "diameter takers". Givers are machine builders and possibly importers. Distributors and canteen/cafetaria service companies are derived diameter givers, but I will lump them together with the builders. Takers are enterprises without the capacity or interest to be active in the coffee vending machine sector. A hospital or a department store would at best put its name or logo on a token, but it had no reason to change the diameter. This distinction has been achieved by putting an "x" in the column Mach. prod. when the issuer was a diameter giver. By definition, those issuers that have no x are diameter takers. Others can take these data and sharpen the definition of which tokens were used in coffee vending machines and which were used otherwise.

Second, I want to group together issues from companies operating under different names, including Dutch branch offices and merger and acquisition targets. This will be done in WoT, but I will start the operation by putting another column in the Excel data base where I can note common origins of issuers. I will leave it to others to use the data base for further research, but I have noted already that the issuers give an interesting picture of the Dutch economy in the approximate time 1950-2000.
