Robert Lowe




Robert Lowe was an engraver at the Royal Mint, UK. I believe he retired some years ago. I have no other biographical details about him.

Richard Trevithick was the inventor of the first steam-powered locomotive to run successfully on rails. The design seen above was the work of Robert Lowe, and it celebrates the 200th anniversary of the journey of the Penydarren locomotive, which made its historic journey in Merthyr Tydfil in February 1804.

Robert Lowe produced the reverse designs of the current Jersey circulation set: the penny to the 50 pence. This superbly designed set features some of the landmarks of that beautiful island.
