Prince Andrew of the UK.


In 1984 Ascension Island and St Helena each issued a 50 pence coin.

The coins commemorated Prince Andrew's visit

Robert Elderton designed the portrait that appeared on both coins.

Falkland Islands, 50 pence, 1985.

Opening of Mount Pleasant Airport by Prince Andrew.


The same portrait appeared on this coin, but with one difference:

Prince Andrew is wearing a military ribbon.


By 1985 he was entitled to wear two ribbons:

the one that came with the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal (received in 1977);

 and the one that came with the South Atlantic Medal (awarded in 1982).

He received that last medal for his active duty in the Falklands War.
