As an example, I give the Austrian set.

Are there any such banknote series, where the different notes just do not seem to gel?

The second Guernsey series meets this criteria to my way of thinking.

A new series of notes were introduced in 1969 in denominations of £1 and £5 that were reasonably matching but then in 1975 a £10 was added of a totally different design.

Yes, very different. You will be persona non grata in Guernsey now, for publishing this. So what did the reverses look like, I wonder?
