More finds to follow. Jersey's first full decimal set, issued in 1971, showed the coat of arms on the reverse. In 1982 the 20p coin was introduced. This featured a lighthouse, but the rest of the coins retained the coat of arms. In 1983 a full new design series was issued, featuring the island's landmarks. The 20p was altered slightly, so that the date appeared on the obverse instead of the reverse.

It's clear from the following sketches that Jersey had intended, or hoped, to release the full new design series in 1982. The issued designs were by Royal Mint artist Robert Lowe. I assume, but do not know, since the documents do not say so, that he also produced the sketches.

"1982" sketches.

Which landmark would appear on which denomination had clearly not been finalised.

Note the ungrammatical "ONE PENCE".

The issued 10 pence coin.

Jersey ½p sketch.jpg

Originally there was going to be a half penny.

However, that denomination was at the end of its days.

Jersey 1p sketch  - became 10p.jpg

The same design is also shown on a penny.

Eventually a modified version of the design appeared on the 10 pence coin.
