Measuring on a scan

I use my electronic callipers to measure font heights precisely. It is not as precise as when used to measure round objects or holes, but much better than a ruler and bad eyesight.

The font in the last three is so badly struck it is difficult to be sure of the size and I have nothing with which to measure this accurately.

Can you use photo editing software? I can

I can't see that that is accurate if they are all scanned at different sizes? I have never had photoshop on my PC

I use paint.net which is free and you can work out what magnification you've scanned it at by measuring the coin and comparing a line as a diameter.

I shall think about that, I do have MS Paint and several other types of editing software already.
