In 2006 David Cornell was asked for the second time in his career to design a series of coins for Nigeria. Like the first series, the designs were never used. In this second series he recycles some designs from the first series that he made in 1975. All of the artifacts shown can be found in British museums.

Fascinating designs. Thanks, Niels. It's easy to see why they couldn't be used (apart from the detail that might have been difficult to reproduce on a coin.) All in British museums. Can you imagine Greece using the Elgin marbles or China using classical Chinese artefacts in the Victoria and Albert? Yet, I think the idea of showing off your culture with top art items is powerful.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
