35 yeni lira: 70 years of Anıtkabir Building, and 40 yeni lira: Lighthouses - Kızılada Feneri.  Both dated 2008.

And this year Turkey issued a coin that honors somebody whose first 100 days in office have barely been over.

  The reverse of that Barack Obama medal-coin has a faulty inscription using a mixture of Turkish within an English inscription.

Peter,Turkey is really classed as a Middle Eastern country,as is Cyprus.

Right, "Visit to Türkiye" looks a little odd indeed. Since that text also appears, completely in Turkish, on the other side, and since the name of the issuing country is in Turkish anyway, it is even more surprising.

As for where the country is geographically, well, does it actually matter? Turkey and Cyprus, and also Georgia, are literally borderline cases. If the Bosporus is the dividing line, Turkey is mostly Asian and partly European. But since Europe and Asia are two parts of the same land mass, any division is more or less arbitrary.

They've made his face a bit too broad - apart from the pointy chin it could almost be George W ...
