A poignant reminder to the fallen soldiers of World War I. Many Indian soldiers of the Sikh Regiment named SURAIN SINGH died fighting for democracy and freedom in France, Belgium and other countries. The "Lion-hearted" Singhs (Singh means Lion) of India fought in an alien land far away from their country, family and relatives, they braved bullets and bayonets, cold and snow, but they fought ferociously till their end giving their youth and sacrificing their life for the relative peace and prosperity that post World War nations enjoy today.

There are total of only 18 Surain Singh listed with British Indian Army who died in WW1.
And if your information is correct that the plaque you have is of Surain Singh in Sikh Regiment, then here is some more info for you..
