Turkey KM # 965.

Got mine out of a junk lot off'f Ebay, looks circulated - but might just have been inadvisably stored.

Congratulations! You don't see them very often. According to my informations they were sent to the local banks, but were not put into circulation in large numbers, because they were not ordered by merchants.

was substituted by the 25 lira denomination, which the consumers apparently liked better.
somehow not surprising as Turkey always had denominations in steps 10-25-50-100.

I also have a 1984 dated Turkey 20 Lira 1984. I have had it for nearly 20 years - got it from bulk coins cheap. It seems to be "almost uncirculated".

Likely I have never seen a 20 Lira 1989 in bulk coins, if I had I would have bought it.

1989 doesn't exist. Catalog error. As already said here, it was replaced already in 1985 with 25 lira pieces, due to tradition of such coinage in Turkey.

My coin has certainly been used. In my active professionnal life I went to Turkey very often, and I got it as a normal circulation coin, which can easily be seen on the coin below!

So some were circulating, but I haven't got any amongst my doubles, so they must be rather rare, only 1.644.000 were struck, which is very low for a population of around 70.000.000. On top of it, in those days Turkey had a gallopping inflation, so the coins lost their value faster than you could imagine...
