The investiture of The Prince of Wales, during which the 20-year-old Prince Charles received his insignia from The Queen, took place on 1st July 1969 at Caernarfon Castle. No coin was issued for the occasion, but the renowned English numismatic artist, Michael Rizzello, designed a medal for the occasion. Here we get a glimpse of the young prince.

In 1981 Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer, who became Princess of Wales. The UK issued a crown, a 25 pence coin. Curiously this coin carried no denomination. At the time the crown size of 38.1mm of diameter was exclusively associated with that denomination. The design was by Philip Nathan, who later designed the UK's gold Britannia coins.
