Title: Redonda
Post by: <k> on July 30, 2010, 12:58:33 AM
Here's one from Redonda Island.

Redonda is a very small, uninhabited Caribbean island or islet which is politically a part (a dependency) of the nation of Antigua and Barbuda in the Leeward Islands West Indies.

So it is appropriate, I think, to say that these "coins" are for the birds. ;)

Have issued some Christmas 50 cents now.
who's going to be using them - since the island is uninhabited ::)
(Redonda is between Montserrat and Nevis in the Caribbean)

Wait wait wait ... Redonda has a king after all. ;D

Unfortunately pretty much everything at that web site is about ten years old. So maybe there are some imposters in town?

At first I thought I saw a shark swimming around the island at 5 o'clock on Andrew's picture. I thought it was the rep of the "mint". Thanks to Christian, I now realize that it must be king Leo. ;D

Redonda Island even has a set of 8 (or is it 6?) 'circulating' coins with one (or two?) bimetallic coin(s).  ::) And they are 'hot items' on e-bay these days... :o

Maybe the inhabitants of Christiana will want to move there after the Danish government evicts them from their little "country".

Don't think there will be "evictions" in Christiania. In my opinion, it may become a little less "anarchic", but that may be it. The place will definitely continue to be more populated than Redonda. ;)

These 50 cents look so much better produced than the rest.
Can anyone produce coins for Redonda? - the answer is probably yes.
Much like the Nicobar & Andaman coins produced by the Osbourne coinage co. Ohio, USA.

I just saw another 'coin' from Redonda Island. It is bimetallic and denomination is 20 Dollars.. :o :o :o

And the event it commemorates is even funnier..Commonwealth Games in New Delhi (2010).. :o ;D

Obverse shows the logo of the games, denomination and CoA ??? of Redonda Island

Reverse shows names of all those countries which have organized CW games so far and the year when they were held.. ::)

Indian government should learn something from Redonda Islands. We are still waiting for the official 2 and 5 rupees coins commemorating the CWG in New Delhi.. ;D ;D

Hilarious! Send the worst offenders to Redonda Island and let them study local habits for a week or so. They will learn to appreciate the local cuisine and they will be able to speak with the sea gulls when they may come back. :D

Redonda.
Uncomfortable that sell kits. Need 2 bimetal coins, and have to buy a set of 8-10 coins.

Strangely many collectors want to have the 50 cents Christmas 'coins' from Redonda (that can be seen in the first post of this topic) in their collection and are willing to pay 30 GBP and more for them a piece.

I checked my collection of token images for Redonda Island. Found a number of unusual tokens that are not yet shown in this thread. These are all apparently self-made releases for amateurs and fans. I collect photos of these new products for interest..

At the beginning of the topic, 2010 was shown. Here is also another 2009:
