Title: Id request - Amirs of Andaraba
Post by: Saikat on September 19, 2020, 02:53:57 PM
Hi,
Can I have an identification for this not so small coin that was just mentioned as Amirs of Andaraba please?
Wt:  11.66g,
Dia: 47mm !
I was told that it was called multiple dirham. But I wanted to know if any ruler was identifiable?
Thanks,
Saikat

That's a big coaster !
From your inscription i first thought that you meant this was issued under the Banijurid governors. Could not find it there though.
Your specimen is difficult to read, but i think your right picture is likely upside down.
Based on general impression i would guess this is most likely Samanid, one of the Nuhs (III from Madan ?), but i lack the neccesary references unfortunately.

According to Mitchiner the obverse top and bottom marginal inscriptions name Al Harith (top) bin Harb (bottom) and your coin appears to be his KB7 from Badakshan not Anderabah.

I have looked through the SNAT volume for Badakshan (XIVc) and it appears to be the same dies as no. 272, attributed to Mansur ibn Nuh with al-Harith ibn HB, mint Kurat Badakshan. The Tubingen specimen is 45 mm and 17.69 gm

Hi,
Many thanks for attributing this big coaster! It was not the best condition as very weakly struck.
Thanks,
Saikat

Dear Saikat, I think the right photo is upside down. If turned, the bottom line of the field may read " نوح بن منصور Nuh bin Mansur ".
