Title: UK: Thomas Hardy - unadopted stamp designs
Post by: <k> on September 26, 2019, 05:59:47 PM
Queen Elizabeth II rejected these stamp designs, for unknown reasons, when they were shown to her. I remember seeing four designs somewhere, but here we see three, courtesy of the Postal Museum (UK). They were intended to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of English author Thomas Hardy in 1990. It is thought that the Queen did not find the designs to be sufficiently convincing representations of Hardy's fictional characters. This suggests that she has a knowledge of and interest in Hardy's novels.

Instead, a single stamp was issued to commemorate Hardy. The rather staid design appears to have been largely computer-generated.
