Title: £145m in old £1 coins still missing - and yet another journalistic error

BBC report on old £1 coins: Old £1 coins: 145 million coins still not returned - BBC News (https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-49111748)

It goes on to give a potted history of decimal demonetisations, after which it comes out with this gem:

Quote
Pre-decimal coins, such as the florin and the shilling, which were not demonetised until the 1990s, had effectively ceased to circulate long before then.

Really? Can no-one ever fact-check this stuff? Where in this case fact-checking need only involve asking someone born before about 1985?

I gues that for a journalist, "long ago" means anything that happened before yesterday. ;D
