Title: Afghanistan - Durrani, Fath Jang - Rupee
Post by: maudry on May 04, 2019, 08:47:34 PM
Here is probably the most interesting coin of a lot of supposedly only Afghan rupees.
The rest of the lot will follow in the coming hours and days.
Fath Jang rules only for 3 1/2 months.
Year has to be AH1258 but is off flan.

Size: 20mm
Weight: 9.28gr

Dear maudry, this is a one year type coin with details:
Afghanistan, Fath Jang Khan Durrani, AH 1258/1842 AD, AR Rupee, dar al-Sultanat Kabul mint, KM 488.4 (AH 1258/1842 AD)
Obverse: Couplet reads: سلطان فتح جنگ پادشاه غازی , Sultan Fath Jang padshah-i-ghazi.
Reverse: ضرب دار السلطنه كابل  , Zarb dar al-Sultanat Kabul.
Fath Jang had a reign of just a few months; his coins are very rare.
