Another rare acquisition, Shahjahan Rupee from Agra mint. Liddle S-129

Kalima type Rupee - 11.31  GM-22.4 MM

Observe - Kalima at the top with "Zarb" and mint name underneath
Reverse - " Saheb Qiran saa" at the bottom, followed by "nee", " Shihab ud din", " Mohammad Shah Jahan Sana ( Regnal) and Badshah Ghazi at the top.

There are two test marks on the coin sides.

This coin from the Mitresh Sir collection http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,41449.msg261645.html#msg261645, with 1038/RY 2, is similar but the AH year is on the opposite side compared to the coin I have :). Maybe this was due to the changeover from Agra to Akbarabad.

Dates were likely to be engraved only when the die was taken into production and by another engraver. The dat engraver would put the date where he saw that there was place for it. Often, but not always, that was the place reserved for the date.

Not exactly, Peter. The legends are different on both coins. The design is also slightly different. In fact, i would put these as two different types, since one coin has the legend in 3 lines and one has it on 4.
