Title: Half Annas
Post by: Robichari on November 14, 2018, 11:09:50 PM
Hi!
I am new here. I'm trying to collect copper coins of British India in VF and better,
but in Poland it is very difficult to do. There in Poland are not, i think, a many people, who collect british india copper fractions.
Here my half annas, which i gathered ;) First 1/2 anna 1834, i think fine/vf

Next 1/2 anna 1835 i think Madras, near 31mm, extra fine - it was little hard to get it in better grade than fine from Poland.

Welcome Robichari,  I'm not sure how it can be anymore difficult in Poland than it is for e.g. the UK. I collect Indian coins but mostly I have to buy via the internet.
Just buy your coins from Ebay or online auction as do most collectors worldwide.

Thank You! It is difficult for me for two reasons: first finansial restrictions ;), second many rare india british coppers not extremely expensive for me are aveliable only in Indian auctions and not shipping to Poland, some sellers at ebay too. But it is a joy searching and finding :) Sorry for my english.

Here is a possible solution. Try finding someone on this site living in India and interested in Polish coins. Ask them to bid and pay for you and pay them with Polish commemorative coins.

Sorry for my english.

There is nothing wrong with your English. For most of us it is a second language. A language is to communicate and everyone understands what you are writing.

Welcome Robichari!!!

You can also add the later 1/2 Anna Coins to your British India Collection - From George V and George VI reign. You should be able to find Fine Grade coins at much reasonable rates as they are very common and easy to find.

I love the huge copper half Anna coins. My favorite ones.  :) You can source them in bulk from India and can get cheaper shipping too-- in many cases cheaper than your country!

Going off-topic, but since this is interesting am posting it here. Please see the following for more details on the postal treaty.

@repindia, the problem for Robichari seems to be finding a seller who will ship to Poland.

Peter

I've been aware that some sellers will not ship to certain countries, presumably because items go missing. I've not noticed Poland on the list, it's usually Russia and for some reason Italy gets a mention.  Buying from India is still his best option but not from Ebay.in ( which I believe is ending soon?) All the best sellers use Ebay.com along with Paypal, tracked shipping can be around $3 or even lower.
I've just looked at several well known sellers in India and selected Poland from the drop down list and non have restrictions for Poland

Another option is Ebay UK and with sellers from European Union Only.

The current listing shows 252 coins of 1/2 Anna.

I have learned it the hard way not to ship anything from the US to certain countries without tracking or registered mail. I had shipped first class international and most of the times the coins went through fine but then I started losing them. Mind you these were cheap $10 or so coins so not too worried but after that never shipped first class international. Shipping from India is cheap as you can register mail for something like $5 and so suggested that approach. You need to check the treaty between Poland and India and if registered mail from India is trackable all the way or not. I learned it the hard way losing a registered mail in the UAE. The buyer knew that registered mail from the US is not trackable and so claimed he never received the expensive package (I knew he did that since I heard he pulled off this confidence trick of several low amount purchases and then one expensive purchase which goes missing with a couple of other people too!). Now I see if the package is fully trackable by registered mail and if not alternative is global priority express full insurance tracking. I know you can never ship inexpensive coins like this and that is probably why @Robichari is not able to source coins.

Thanks capnbirdseye and Abhay! I use ebay.com and ebay.co.uk, but in case of some rare coins, if it come to ebay, the prices usually go very high, and my possibility is max 25-30 euro to month ;) Some coins almoust at all dont avaliable on ebay, for example 1/2 anna BII 1862, i looked trough ebays differents countries, and one i can find cost more than 2000 dollars, or 1/2 anna 1875 (i proud this coin) or 1/12 anna 1874, which i think is impossible for me to buy. And for example on indian auction house todywalla or marudharats this coins are appearing more often and cheaper.
From my trying buy on ebay, have met several times buyers, who are not shipping the coins abroad (only USA, UK or India.

Capnbirdseye can You give me the ebay name the sellers from India, who are on ebay.com?
